Nemo Science Museum
On the banks of the IJ lies the futuristic NEMO: the mecca for every curious soul who likes to experiment. You cannot miss the building; it has the shape of a gigantic green ship and is clearly recognizable from afar. The museum calls itself a science center, but that does not mean that it is for only science people – on the contrary! NEMO makes science and technology fun, exciting and accessible. One visit to this center and physics suddenly doesn’t seem that complicated anymore.
Get started with the interactive exhibitions and discover, for example, how bridges work, unravel optical illusions or transform a bucket of water into clean drinking water. Take on the role of a chemist and conduct experiments in the new Laboratory. A crackling sweater or a rainbow: after a visit to NEMO you will look at the world with new eyes. And when you’re done exploring, you can relax in one of NEMO’s catering establishments.
With the permanent attractions of NEMO you can relax all day long, but NEMO also offers many temporary activities such as demonstrations and workshops.
NEMO is well equipped for young visitors and families. There is a special room for changing babies and you can store your belongings in a locker for € 0.50. Snacks and drinks are available in one of the three cafeterias and there are special areas for consuming your own refreshments. The terrace on “deck 5” – offers a spectacular view over the historic harbor in the IJ.
NEMO is easily accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. There is an elevator, there are special toilets for the disabled and you can borrow a wheelchair at the reception. For the visually impaired: consult with NEMO employees which parts are best accessible.
And after a hard day of science you can have a drink and a bit to eat in their restaurant all the way on the top of the Nemo. With a fantastic view you can enjoy all kinds of beverages. But also if you don’t want to visit the museum, you can enjoy the amazing view. Because the rooftop bar is accessible for non-visitors as well.
