A’dam Tower
On the other side of the IJ river behind central station there is a prominent high tall building located. This is the former head office of the oil company called Shell. Shell is a Dutch-American oil company. But in 2009 they moved out and the building was used for a few years as an office combination building, where different companies where located. In 2014 the Amsterdam government, the then owner of the building, set up a competition for people and companies to give the building a new purpose. And from there the A’dam tower was born. A’dam stands for “Amsterdam dance and more”. But Adam is also the short name of Amsterdam. On may 14 of 2016 it was officially opened.
The building has several purposes. It has 2 restaurants. One of them has a turning floor. While you eat you can see the whole city from a beautiful height. The restaurant is called Moon. It has a bar, Nightclub, hotel and several offices. But the most spectacular you will find there is the LOOK OUT! On the top of the building, you have a rooftop Lookout. Where you can have an amazing view of the city. On a good day you can see as far as the Airport Schiphol.
If you are a bit of a daredevil also on the roof you can find the highest swing in Europe. You literally swing over the edge. Also the “ride” to the top is an experience on its own. A glass elevator shoots you up in a ring of led lights. Almost giving you the idea that you are being shot into space.
Where the building is open 24/7 with club and hotel. The rooftop (Look Out) is only open from 10:00 till 22:00 (last entry 21:00).
